Small Boat Fishing in Hawaii: A Random Utility Model of Ramp and Ocean Destinations
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper investigates small boat fishing on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. We develop a model in which anglers choose where to launch their trailered boats, as well as their ocean destination. The model allows us to study spatial aspects of small boat fishing, including the benefits and costs of attributes of different regions of the ocean, such as fish aggregating devices. Second, it allows us to understand the effects of limiting access to various fishing areas.

Effects of sewage discharge, fishing pressure and habitat complexity on coral ecosystems and reef fishes in Hawaii
The major factor controlling the abundance of reef fishes in Hawaii (USA) appears to be habltat complexity (bottom topographic relief and interstitial space) Fishes aggregate In areas of h ~ g h hab~tat complexity at b~o~nass levels whlch, in areas protected from fishing, may significantly (by 2 to 5 times) exceed levels supported by pnmary production within the ecosystem. High relief natural a...

Shark stocks in Iranian water of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman are declining sharply. Although fishing and heavy fines have been banned by the organizations in charge of fishing for these fish, bycatch in some fishing methods, including Neritic and oceanic Gillnet, trawl fish and shrimp, long loine and trolling, still catch sharks. Slowly In this study, during a period of 10 years from 2010...
متن کاملThalassorama A System for Classifying Small Boat Fishermen in Hawaii
A statewide economic survey of Hawaii’s fishing vessel operators was conducted in 1995–96. Survey topics fell into five groups: vessel characteristics, owners’ motivations, fishing operations, cost and revenue information, and operator demographics. Although this project was designed for and emphasizes the costs and earnings of commercial pelagic fishermen, information was also collected from r...
متن کاملAnalysis on technical efficiency and influencing factors of fishing vessels: a case study of Haizhou Bay, China
This paper used the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to measure the technical efficiency of fishing vessels in Haizhou Bay, and then used the Tobit regression to define its influencing factors. This study shows that the overall fishing capacity utilization of fishing vessels at present is very low which indicates that there is a serious waste of resources problem in Haizhou Bay. Specifically, th...
متن کاملCapabilities of data assimilation in correcting sea surface temperature in the Persian Gulf
Predicting the quality of water and air is a particular challenge for forecasting systems that support them. In order to represent the small-scale phenomena, a high-resolution model needs accurate capture of air and sea circulations, significant for forecasting environmental pollution. Data assimilation is one of the state of the art methods to be used for this purpose. Due to the importance of...
